Meet Our Physicians
R. Charles Howells, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. R. Charles Howells, II is originally from Bedford County. He graduated from Juniata College, in Huntingdon, PA, Summa Cum Laude and attended West Virginia School of Medicine, graduating in 1996. Dr. Howells completed a General Surgical Internship at WVU in 1997 and his residency was done at the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at WVU from 1997 -2001. He came back to Altoona to start his practice upon the completion of his residency. His interests in Otolaryngology include: Pediatric ENT problems, Sinus and Nasal Surgery, and Salivary Gland Surgery. Outside of ENT Associates, Dr. Howells likes to spend time outdoors, mountain biking, skiing, and hiking with his Labradors. He also enjoys spending time with his family – wife Stephanie and three sons: Joshua and Nathan college students, and Christopher who is a student at Hollidaysburg Area School District.
Robert J. Caughey, M.D.
Dr. Robert J. Caughey is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania He attended undergraduate school at the University of Virginia and graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Caughey’s interests include Pediatrics and Sinus. Outside of medicine, Dr. Caughey’s interests include Ice Hockey, Running, and Pittsburgh sports. Dr. Caughey is married and has three children, Naomi, Lydia, and Charlie.
David E. Higgins, M.D.
Dr. David Higgins is the only one of our providers that does not have origins in Pennsylvania; he is originally from Steubenville, Ohio. Dr. Higgins graduated with is undergraduate and also received his Medical Degree from the New Mexico State University. His interests in the Otolaryngology field are general care. Dr. Higgins likes to spend his time out side of ENT Associates with family and running. He has 1 son, 2 daughters, and 2 grandchildren. Dr. Higgins has also completed several half marathons.
Kara E. Kimberly, M.D.
Dr. Kara Kimberly is originally from Bellwood, Pennsylvania. She graduated from St. Francis University with a degree in Physician Assistant Sciences. Dr. Kimberly attended Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine Marshall University, Huntington, WV. She completed her residency at University of South Florida, Tampa. Dr. Kimberly’s interests include: Thyroid, Parathyroid Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery, Skin Cancer Excision and reconstruction, Voice Disorders, Children and Adults with Special Needs, and Medical Botox. Outside of her medical practice Dr. Kimberly enjoys spending time with her family including her husband Brandon and her three boys: Jacob, Luke, and Jack.
Meet Our Audiologists and Audiology Assistant
Dr. Amy Nedostup
In June 2013, Dr. Amy Nedostup joined the staff of ENT Associates of Central Pennsylvania and brought to the group a new tier of services which now includes comprehensive audiology services provided and managed by Dr. Nedostup.
Dr. Nedostup specializes in quality patient care while providing audiological evaluations, vestibular evaluations and hearing aid services for all ages.
Dr. Nedostup obtained her Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University. Additionally, she holds a master’s degree in audiology from James Madison University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Sciences from The Ohio State University.
Nationally certified by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association, as well as a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, Dr. Nedostup is licensed for audiology through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Nedostup has been practicing Audiology since 1998. Her experience as a clinical audiologist focuses on the diagnosis of auditory and vestibular disorders and rehabilitation to include hearing aid services. Dr. Nedostup was an investigator at the United States Army’s Aeromedical Laboratory in Ft. Rucker, Alabama where she spent four years researching effective treatments for tinnitus in the military population and the auditory and vestibular effects of blast induced traumatic brain injury in the active duty soldier.
She practiced in Washington State as the director of Northwest Hearing Center and in Tennessee at The Center for Audiology.
Dr. Nedostup is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. She currently resides in Hollidaysburg with her two sons and her husband Wil, who serves full time for the Pennsylvania National Guard as a medivac pilot and aviation training officer.
In her free time, she enjoys hiking and camping.
Dr. Rachel Haines
Dr. Rachel Haines joined the practice in May of 2017, after completing a fourth year externship with the practice. She obtained her Doctorate in Audiology and Bachelor Degree in Science at Bloomsburg University. Dr. Haines provides diagnostic audiological evaluations, vestibular evaluations, and fitting and dispensing of hearing aids for patients of all ages.
Dr. Haines is nationally certified with the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. She holds a state license in Pennsylvania and is a Board Certified Audiologist.
Dr. Haines is originally from St. Marys, PA. and currently resides in Altoona. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, camping, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends.
